A Healthier District

Better physical and mental health for our residents will be an important goal for a Labour Lichfield District Council. We can lobby the primary care services as a district council, holding them to account, as well as improving the services we provide to help people lead happier, healthier lives.

This means working to improve our environment as well ensuring our leisure services reach out to all groups in the district.

Improve air quality by encouraging cycling, walking and better public transport.

It is no good being outside getting exercise if the air quality is not good. We will endeavour to reduce the barriers that deter people from walking or cycling or jogging working with our partners at the County Council and elsewhere. We will also investigate ways we can show a need for extra bus routes.

Enable our residents to live healthy and active lives.

Improved, in-house, Leisure Services is the key here but also education and support for clubs, whether where people are able to socialise, such as the open and warmer spaces. Physical as well as mental health is important and grants for such groups in villages would help to increase these opportunities. A Labour Council will be on the side of people who need help.

Support the relationship between communities and the health services they rely on.

Local Conservatives have rejected a plan to invest in local GP services; and there are now plans to close a Health and Wellbeing Centre moving 5000 extra patients to already over-stretched services. A Labour Council will speak up for you and not stay silent on this important issue.

Deliver top class leisure and sporting facilities for all our communities.

A new leisure centre in Lichfield, proper management of Burntwood leisure centre and improvements to leisure opportunities for the surrounding areas. Labour will stop wasting money on outsourcing and spend it on services that people want.

Support local groups to establish regular community sporting events.

We want to encourage sporting events throughout the district, whether they are fun runs or more serious competitions. We can help fund and provide expert advice for local communities wanting to put provide one for their village or town.
