A Fairer and More Prosperous Economy

We want the District Council’s resources to be distributed more fairly across the district for the benefit of everyone who calls our area home.

Everyone knows Burntwood does not get its fair share of investment, but rural areas miss out too and we will work with the local parish and town councils to redress this imbalance. Whilst warehousing and transport is welcome light manufacturing is more labour intensive and brings skills and higher paid jobs into the area, so we want to help this sector in particular.

We will provide fair investment across the whole district.

Putting all your eggs into one basket, as the Conservatives have done over 20 years with Friarsgate, has not been successful. We want to look at ways of investing in other areas too that would help villages and benefit the environment.

We will develop a local growth plan by working with local businesses.

We need thriving businesses to for our local economy and we will listen to businesses to see how we can help them improve and grow.

Introduce a Good Business Charter to celebrate the best of our local businesses.

We will raise good business practices, encourage improvement in business and celebrating what our local companies do well in partnership with the Council.

Encourage internal investment through Community Wealth Building and local procurement.

We will adopt an interventionist approach to economic development that prioritises and harnesses resources to generate wealth for local residents and build an inclusive local economy.

Get the development of the Friarsgate site moving.

Almost a quarter of a century of broken Conservative promises and delays have cost our area dozens of jobs with nothing to show for it. It’s time to stop the meaningless consultations and delays. Labour will get the project moving.
